IF:Fortune --- True Story of a Baby Hippo & Tortoise Friendship

This week's prompt, Fortune, inspired me to draw the Orphaned Baby Hippo (Owen) who adopted a 130 year old Tortoise (Mzee) after the 2004 Tsunami. At first, Mzee did not want to be Owen's "mother," but Owen persisted and by the end of their first night, the two were found snuggled up together. It is good fortune that Owen met Mzee and they were to become unlikely friends. You can find out more by typing their names on the WEB. They are at Haller Park Sanctuary in Africa. It is a heartwarming story that my daughters' introduced me to.

DianaDDunn: I have always loved art and drawing. While studying engineering in college, I continued to draw from books by the Masters. In my 40's, I took local watercolor classes, since I had always wanted to learn how to add color to my drawings. I used my computer knowledge to "develop" my photos and study composition and lighting. This enabled me to produce realistic portraits, landscapes, and illustrations. I believe composition is key to conveying the "story" behind drawings and paintings. I spend hours sketching, taking photographs, and studying paintings. I am always amazed at what can be seen or felt using a simple piece of paper and pencils or paints. After years of gallery shows, I have decided to get back to just having fun. My latest passion is daily sketches and "designed" entries into my art journal. My dog is very patient when I stop and sketch during our morning walks in the Vermont countryside.
